Yes, while it
is true that you can still spend thousands of dollars for bejeweled cigarette cases - at
Tiffany's or perhaps even at the "Jewelry Store At Fred Meyer's," the cigarette
case, once predominantly a status symbol, has, at least in the world of RYO smokers,
gained the status of the neo-necessary. Containers for your precious self-rolled treasures can be acquired for a buck 1$US (for the plastic pack shaped case) and very elegant looking metal cigarette case are common in the $20-30 range, with some even lower in price. Basically, all that a cigarette case need accomplish is keep your cigarettes dry and unwrinkled. However, function notwithstanding, part of the festive nature of a good smoke probably is enhanced with the act of taking out a nice case, carefully selecting just the right stick, and tapping it gently to pack it nicely before lighting up. The signal sent of "this is an occasional diversion of mine that I am in complete control of" can certainly enhance the ritualistic nature of smoking. People used to (and the young ones still probably do) practice their smoking posture in front of a mirror to make sure they had just that right devil-may-care attitude. Now it may sound silly but a LARGE part of smoking is the ritual and we find ourselves smoking excessively when we lose that ritual and revert to the habit of keeping a cigarette burning at all times. Think about it. When the Marlboro man was seen in ads smoking on a horse, he appeared to be taking a break. He was not in the middle of work, he was cooling his heels and relaxing. How many cigarettes would you smoke a day if you only smoked during a formal break in activity. Which, once again we remind you, is one of the editorial thrusts of this magazine. That is to make each cigarette a festival, a special treat, a thoroughly enjoyed experience that you control. Nothing we can think of lends more to that ritualism (as opposed to habitualism) than a nice cigarette case. We will get more specific as to makers and pricing in subsequent issues. In the meantime be advised that you can find nice, reasonably priced cigarette cases at most tobacco shops and on-line smoking accessory sites and almost nowhere else. |
EDITOR'S NOTE: These reviews are solely for the convenience of people of legal age who already smoke, are trying to cut down on smoking, wish to spend less money on their smoking, want to roll their own cigarettes from high quality tobacco, and, in general, wish to have a far more satisfying, and economical smoking experience when compared with smoking pre-manufactured cigarettes. We, in no way, encourage people to smoke. Further, we prescribe to a sane, more logical approach to smoking that involves common sense as to quantity coupled with a strong desire to manage the habit until it becomes an occasional, freely chosen, diversion, that can be fully enjoyed with minimal health risks. Finally, we strongly encourage those who do smoke to take it outdoors, or to appropriate environments where tobacco can be enjoyed away from those who do not smoke, most especially children. We do not sell tobacco or related products from this site; We distribute information about our perceptions of the quality of what is available and where it can be obtained. If you are under 18, it is illegal to buy tobacco and you should immediately exit this site. If you do not smoke, it would seem illogical to start. |
